Investigation of Biofilm ability by Microtiter Plate Method in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection with urinary stones.
Authors
Abstract:
Abstract: Background and Aim: Urinary tract infections are one of the most commonly reported nosocomial infections caused by colonization of E. coli in the mucosal epithelium and in the formation of microbial biofilms, which damage the host tissue. The aim of this study was to determine the amount of biofilm formation of uropathogenic E. coli based on urinary tract stones of people with urinary tract infection. Materials and Methods: In this study, 380 patients with positive urine culture with Escherichia coli bacteria were studied. Of these, 34 patients had urinary stone and urinary tract infection with E. coli at the same time. These rocks were sent to the laboratory in accordance with sterile conditions. To maintain and maintain a long-term bacteria to collect and perform other tests in such a way that the bacteria themselves are not harmed, they are stored in a glycerol stock state. To determine the biofilm formation capacity, this bacterium was investigated by Microtiter Plate method. Results: The results showed that a total of 34 stone samples were examined using conventional methods containing uropathogenic E. coli. These microorganisms showed a low biofilm strength of 18%, very low power, 20% moderate power and 59% high power. Conclusion: In this study, the presence of infection with urinary stones as a suitable bed and surface for the uropathogenic E. coli and, as a result of biofilm formation of this bacterium on the surface of the stone, causes more urinary tract infection and also resistance an antibiotic in the strains that causes the urinary tract infection. Keywords: Urinary tract infections, uropathogenic E. coli, biofilm.

Biochemical Detection of N-Acyl Homoserine Lactone from Biofilm-Forming Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infection Samples
Background: N-Acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) is found to be the main component of quorum sensing (QS) in Gram-negative bacteria and plays an important role in biofilm formation. Little information is available regarding the role of AHL in biofilm formation in Escherichia coli (E. coli). The purpose of this investigation was to biochemically detect and characterize AHL activity in biofilm-forming...
full textthe fimh gene in uropathogenic escherichia coli strains isolated from patients with urinary tract infection
conclusions the results of this study indicated that more than 90% of e. coli isolates harbored the fimh gene. the high binding ability of fimh could result in the increased pathogenicity of e. coli; thus, fimh could be used as a possible diagnostic marker and/or vaccine candidate. materials and methods a total of 140 isolated e. coli strains from patients with uti were identified using biochem...
full textInvestigation of fimH Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (C640T and T591A) in Uropathogenic E. coli Isolated from Patients with Urinary Tract Infections
Background: Urinary tract infections are one of the most frequent health problems and Uropathogenic Escherichia coli is the major pathogen resulting UTIs. The severity of UTIs is caused by the expression of a large range of virulence factors. In this study, we evaluated the allelic frequency fimH gene, in UPECs isolated from patients with UTIs. This study also aimed to determine the roles of C64...
full textIdentification of extended-spectrum β-lactamase genes in Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection
Introduction: Recentlly, resistance to antibiotics has increased and antibiotic-resistant strains producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) have emerged among Enterobacteriaceae, mainly in Escherichia coli (E. coli). In this study we aimed to determine phenotypic and genotypic ESBL production in isolated E. coli from women with urinary tract infection (UTI). Materials and Methods: In...
full textThe FimH Gene in Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Strains Isolated From Patients With Urinary Tract Infection
BACKGROUND Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of main health problems caused by many microorganisms, including uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). UPEC strains are the most frequent pathogens responsible for 85% and 50% of community and hospital acquired UTIs, respectively. UPEC strains have special virulence factors, including type 1 fimbriae, which can result in worsening of UTIs. O...
full textThe ability of uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolates in biofilm formation on urinary catheter and association with bcsA and draE genes
The product biofilm by E.coli strain can cause serious problem for human health. Catheter is considered to be s suitable place for colonization of microorganisms, so that in %5-10 of patients who used catheter for only one day and also in all patients who used it for over 28 days, this colonization of bacteria is observed on catheter. This study is come out in order to compare biofilm formation...
